High Island Export founded in 1986 by Ross Hebeisen for the purpose of exporting hardwood veneer logs. The main species for High Island has been Black (swamp) Ash from the lowlands of northern Minnesota, procure for shipment to Asia. During the early years we also shipped Green (brown) Ash, Red & White Oak, Basswood and Elm to Europe and Asia. Over the last years we have been pioneers into the thermal-modification of wood for tonewood use. We have spent countless time and money into the research and development of the effect of thermal-modification / torrefaction of various species as they all have different degrees of difficulty with the process. We are the guy's on the ground doing hands on select harvest forest management and sustainable harvest of select trees. We process all the way through from the forest to milling, kiln drying, modification and preparing for market.
